NATHPO Announces Recipients of 2024 Protecting Native Places Grants

Greetings!

I couldn’t be more thrilled to be writing to you today to announce the recipients of NATHPO’s 2024 Protecting Native Places Grants. Founded in 2022 in partnership with The Wilderness Society and the Wilburforce Foundation, NATHPO established the Protecting Native Places Grant program to help support THPOs as they do the important work of ensuring the culturally responsible management of public lands as part of their larger task of protecting indigenous culture. At our conference last summer, we were excited to announce the Tennessee Valley Authority had joined us as an additional partner.

This is the third year NATHPO has provided these Protecting Native Places Grants to member THPOs, and we were pleased that the number of recipients has nearly doubled from the first year and that for the third year in a row, 100% of applications were accepted and funded. NATHPO is incredibly grateful to our partners at The Wilderness Society and the Tennessee Valley Authority for their support.

The 2024 Protecting Native Places grant recipients include:

NATHPO is further excited to be expanding the size and scope of this grant program in 2025, thanks to a three-year $5 million grant we received from the Mellon Foundation late last year. If you are a THPO and are interested in learning more about Protecting Native Places Grants, how they can be used to support your work, or how to apply, OR if you or someone you know might be interested in supporting this work and helping grow the Protecting Native Places Grant program, please contact Melissa@nathpo.org.
