NATHPO is currently accepting applications for our 2024 Protecting Native Places Fund Grants. Started in 2022, NATHPO, recognizing the interconnectedness of efforts to protect Indigenous culture and the natural world, has partnered with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and The Wilderness Society (TWS), through the support of the Wilburforce Foundation, to again endow the Protecting Native Places Fund (PNPF) to support NATHPO Member THPOs in these important efforts.

APPLY FOR YOUR 2024 PROTECTING NATIVE PLACES GRANT HERE

At our annual conference in August, we were proud to announce an additional partner in TVA, which allowed us to grow the PNPF for 2024! Last year, we awarded 17 $5,000 grants to member THPOs for this important work. This year, thanks to the generosity of our partners, NATHPO will be able to award 27 $5,000 grants.

The application is just TWO QUESTIONS. Here's what you need to know: 

  • Amount: $135,000 will be awarded as $5,000 grants (27 grants available).
    • This is on a 1st come, 1st served basis
    • We will only accept 27 applications
  • Eligibility: NATHPO Full or Associate members in good standing are eligible for the Protecting Native Places Fund. If you have questions about your membership status, please contact Accounting@nathpo.org with ‘Membership Question’ in the subject line.
  • Timeline:
    • Application submittal opens October 1, 2024.
    • Application submittal closes November 1, 2024, OR after we accept 27 applications, whichever comes first.
    • NATHPO will evaluate applications and select awardees.
    • Notification of award: November 15, 2024
    • After award notification: Please submit W9 and banking information
    • Grants will be disbursed by December 1, 2024.
    • The period of performance will be December 1, 2024 – November 30, 2025.
    • Final THPO interviews will be conducted in December 2025.

How to Apply 

We understand your time is extremely valuable and we have worked to make applying for this grant, as well as reporting, as easy to manage as possible. To apply, simply answer the questions (application package found HERE) up to 500 words each and email them to NATHPO's Executive Director, Dr. Valerie J. Grussing at valerie@nathpo.org and copy NATHPO’s Director of Operations, Melissa Madrigal, at melissa@nathpo.org with '2024 Protecting Native Places Fund Grant Application' in the subject line.
