The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is developing a Program Comment on Accessible, Climate-Resilient, Connected Communities that aims to provide federal agencies with an alternate way to comply with their responsibilities under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Comments are due TODAY October 9, 2024, and NATHPO will be submitting comment, a draft copy of which is attached and will be posted on our website when it's finalized and submitted. Comment Due October 18, 2024: Program Comment on Stewardship and Management of National Park Service Mission 66-Era Facilities (1945-1972). The National Park Service (NPS) is requesting the subject Program Comment to facilitate continued use and preservation of Mission 66-era historic properties by providing parks with an optional tool that will reduce or eliminate external reviews for certain straightforward Mission 66-era focused undertakings. It will also allow superintendents to consider Mission 66-era facilities as eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places when they reference the Mission 66-era Multiple Property Determination Form, thereby addressing NPS’ identification backlog. Comments are due October 18, 2024, and NATHPO will be submitting comment, a copy of which will be posted on our website when it's finalized. You can find more information HERE.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN FOR PROTECTING NATIVE PLACES GRANTS!
Last week, NATHPO was excited to announce the opening of applications for our 2024 Protecting Native Places Fund Grants. Started in 2022, NATHPO, recognizing the interconnectedness of efforts to protect Indigenous culture and the natural world, has partnered with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and The Wilderness Society (TWS), through the support of the Wilburforce Foundation, to again endow the Protecting Native Places Fund (PNPF) to support NATHPO Member THPOs in these important efforts. At our annual conference in August, we were proud to announce an additional partner in TVA, which allowed us to grow the PNPF for 2024! Last year, we awarded 17 $5,000 grants to member THPOs for this important work. This year, thanks to the generosity of our partners, NATHPO will be able to award 27 $5,000 grants.
